The smallest unit is the loop. The loops form small pairs or clusters, or get wrapped by a spiral or a bigger loop into something like an organelle that combines with others to form an organ which assembles with others in a way that makes the whole feel like a metabolic system. One that very much does not exist anywhere outside this painting.
